Podikizhi is a dry or oil-assisted form of Kizhi therapy using herbal powder boluses. The preparation, temperature and application method are personalised according to the individual’s condition.

THERAPY PROCESS

How Is Podikizhi Performed?

Selected herbal powders are tied in cloth boluses and warmed to a suitable temperature. Trained therapists apply the boluses using controlled tapping and rhythmic movements over the recommended areas.

Oil may be used when prescribed by the Ayurvedic doctor.

• Reduced heat sensation or significant neuropathy
• Pregnancy, unless specifically advised
• Conditions where heat therapy is unsuitable

The therapist must be informed about altered sensation or skin sensitivity.

Before Podikizhi

• Inform the doctor about injuries, swelling, skin sensitivity and medications
• Avoid therapy immediately after a heavy meal
• Wear suitable clothing
• Report reduced heat sensation or numbness
• Follow the doctor’s preparation advice

After Podikizhi

• Rest briefly after therapy
• Avoid strenuous exercise immediately afterwards
• Keep the treated area warm
• Bathe only after the recommended time
• Follow prescribed movement and lifestyle guidance
